FamFest and Queen Victoria Markets have joined forces to help celebrate the 2016 Chinese New Year, working together as part of the Melbourne City Wide celebration and activities to hold Yuán Xiāo Jié Chinese New Year At QVM.
Chinese New Year is a very auspicious time for a wide array of Asian nationalities and is celebrated throughout the Asian continent over the period of 30 days, with a heavy focus of family reunion and togetherness. The exact dates vary each year dependant on the lunar charts and various dates have different auspicious meaning.
Helping celebrate QVM’s historic connection with the Melbourne Chinese Community the 2016 Yuán Xiāo Jié Chinese New Year At QVM will run on Saturday, 20th February; this date has been chosen for its favourable time as the Lantern Festival, which leads up to the first full moon of the Chinese New Year calendar.
